Our Philosophy in a Nutshell

COMOLOM is C.O.M.O.L.O.M. which is the Church of the More-Or-Less Obvious Metaphor. Fair enough. Our philosophy is spelled out in Grand Precept #5, WATCH FOR THE METAPHORS, which states,

“COMOLOM believes that God is constantly ‘speaking’ to us by means of More-Or-Less Obvious Metaphors. Even a severely addled individual knows that the physical world is positively bursting at the seams with metaphors, those tangible in-your-face realities that speak so powerfully to our guts that they wedge themselves into our everyday speech.”

COMOLOM says it’s no coincidence that every language is exploding, erupting, boiling over with metaphors. We are not being sarcastic or silly or facetious or cute. We are dead serious. We all speak the language of metaphors, which we believe is God’s language.

If there is a Creator, and we must stress the word “if”, then we believe the Big Fella is using metaphors to communicate directly to us. Metaphors speak to us without sacred books or megachurches or the need for a translator. Metaphors speak to you, whether you are rich or poor; beautiful or ugly; gay or straight; smart as a whip or dumber than a fence post. Metaphors speak to you today just like they spoke to Socrates, Mary Queen of Scots and Ray Charles.

A unique part of our philosophy - and you don’t hear this from other religions - is that we admit that we may be completely off the mark. In other words, we may be just plain wrong. No harm, no foul.

In a nutshell, COMOLOM is about listening to your own metaphors. We all have our own metaphors. Watch for them.
